In this mixed-media work (markers and pastel chalk), the foreground shows a woman fleeing from something that terrifies her; that something is Death, lurking on the right side in the background. The woman seeks safety in the arms of the man in the middle ground, who could be her partner, but the horror is inevitable. The man, with a look of compassion, seems to be lamenting something that is about to happen. Death hides behind them, in profile and motionless, as if doing nothing, yet awaiting the tragic end.
